Your Personal Guide from a Sayulita Wedding Photographer.
If you’re dreaming of a wedding that feels adventurous, grounded, and unforgettable, let me introduce you to Sayulita, Mexico. This vibrant surf town on the Riviera Nayarit is more than just a destination—it’s a feeling. The energy is relaxed, the sunsets are magic, and the Mexico destination wedding venues? Absolutely breathtaking.
As someone who lived in Sayulita for two years, and has photographed weddings throughout the area, I created this guide to help you find the perfect Mexico destination wedding venue that fits your vision.
Whether you’re planning a full weekend celebration, renting a villa for an intimate gathering, or looking to elope in Mexico somewhere meaningful—this blog will walk you through it all.
Why I Fell in Love With Sayulita
My journey with Mexico started in 2021 when I traveled to Tulum for a yoga retreat. Something about the land, the light, and the pace of life spoke to me on a soul level. Six months later, I returned to Tulum for an extended stay, but realized it wasn’t quite what I was looking for.
On a later trip to Mexico, I discovered Sayulita—and instantly knew it was the place. Walkable, beachy, spiritual, filled with music and color and warmth. After that visit, I packed up my apartment in the States, moved everything into storage, and made the leap.
I split my time now between Sayulita and Portland, Oregon—and have photographed nearly a dozen destination weddings in Mexico so far (and counting). My role isn’t just to photograph your day—it’s to help you dream it up, plan it well, and feel fully supported the entire way through.
My Top 5 Mexico Destination Wedding Venues Near Sayulita
This guide includes my favorite places to get married in and around Sayulita—some are popular venues, others are more off the beaten path. All are stunning. All offer something unique. Let’s get into it.
1. Don Pedro’s Palapa – Sayulita, Mexico
Destination Wedding Venue in Mexico
Don Pedro’s Palapa is one of the most iconic destination wedding venues in Mexico—especially if you’re drawn to Sayulita’s charm and energy. If you want an authentic Sayulita wedding with incredible views and a central location, Don Pedro’s Palapa is a top pick.
This venue sits above the main beach in town, giving you oceanfront energy with a bit of elevation and privacy. Located on a hill at the south end of town, this venue offers stunning views and open-air spaces. It also offers a large palapa for a covered, but open reception. It’s one of the most recognizable venues in the area, and for good reason.
Ceremony space: The ceremony takes place in a grassy area right next to the palapa, with views of the ocean and cliffs below.
It’s open-air and private, with the perfect golden-hour light and a breeze that rolls in just before sunset.
Reception space: The open-air palapa has panoramic views of the coastline, space for seated dinners, and a dance floor that stays busy. Plus there’s enough room for a full bar setup.
You can decorate it to match your vibe—whether you’re going elegant, beachy, boho, or a mix of everything.
Capacity: Up to 120 guests.
Thoughts from a Sayulita Mexico Wedding Photographer
Why I love it: Don Pedro’s Palapa feels like a natural extension of Sayulita itself—colorful, open, welcoming, and full of life. This Mexico destination wedding venue embodies a vibrant, celebratory energy.
It’s close enough to town for convenience but feels tucked away once you’re up at the venue. Don Pedro’s offers privacy and incredible views. It strikes that rare balance between festive and intentional.
Personal story: Sarah & Connor got married here, and their day was filled with warmth, laughter, and tequila-fueled dance moves. Blog post and photo gallery coming soon!
Pro tip: Since the venue is outdoor and elevated, it cools off in the evenings—especially in winter. Plan for layers or cozy lighting!
2. Teitiare Estate – Sayulita, Mexico
If you’re dreaming of a Mexico destination wedding venue that feels private, luxurious, and one-of-a-kind—Teitiare Estate is it.
Teitiare Estate, tucked into the jungle just south of Sayulita, is one of the most exclusive destination wedding venues in Mexico. This luxury estate offers full privacy, jaw-dropping views, and space to host your wedding weekend all in one place.
Ceremony: Most couples choose the estate’s private beach for their ceremony. It’s intimate, quiet, and overlooks the rocky, ocean shoreline. Plus, you can enjoy the sound of waves crashing as you exchange your vows with your love. The ceremony space is backed by the estate and towering palms.
You’ll walk down to the beach surrounded by greenery, and say your vows with the ocean just steps away.
Reception: The reception takes place in a grassy yard area just off the beach, under towering palms and romantic string lights. It’s a private space slightly removed from the beach, but close enough to hear the sound of the waves in the distance.
There’s space for a seated dinner, a full bar setup, a large dance floor, and plenty of cozy lounge zones. Some couples opt for long, family style tables to make it feel like a luxurious and intimate dinner party.
Unique Details about Destination Wedding Venue in Mexico, Teitiare Estate
Note: The villa sits on top of a cliffside. Once wedding guests make their way from the villa down to the beach for the ceremony, the events typically stay at ground level.
Pre-ceremony: I’ve had couples opt for a pre-ceremony cocktail hour so their guests can enjoy the upstairs space of the villa before making their way to the beach. Welcome drinks or a pre-ceremony cocktail hour can be hosted near the pool before guests head down for the ceremony.
Once everyone’s on the beach, the celebration stays down below—no hiking back up the stairs necessary.
Post-ceremony: Cocktail hour takes place on the sandy area between the beach and the grass yard reserved for the reception. Teitiare offers a variety of open-air spaces, allowing the celebration to flow with ease.
Capacity: Best for weddings of 40–170 people. While it feels intimate, Teitiare can undoubtedly host larger weddings. Laura & Cliff had 160 guests and it flowed beautifully.
Accommodations: On-site villas can house the couple, wedding party, and close guests for the weekend.

You’re surrounded by the jungle, the ocean, your people, and all the space you need to fully relax into it. The mix of privacy, luxury, and nature is unmatched. You can truly create a full wedding weekend without ever leaving the property.
Personal story: I photographed Laura & Cliff’s wedding here, and they made it a full festival-style celebration. First dance turned EDM mashup. Floor sparklers. An epic dance party. Ice cream tacos, churros, and a sparkler sendoff. We can’t forget the surprise beach fireworks. Check out their photo gallery and wedding recap here!
They went all in—and it paid off. This venue allowed them to surprise and delight their guests all weekend long. It was one of the most joy-filled, creative wedding weekend celebrations I’ve ever photographed—and Teitiare gave them the space to dream big.
Pro tip: I also included Teitiare Estate in my roundup of Top Wedding Venues for Weekend-Long Celebrations. It’s one of the best in Mexico if you want more than just a one-day wedding. It’s a Mexico destination wedding venue dream.
3. Martoca Beach Garden – Bucerias, Mexico
Destination Wedding Venue in Mexico
Martoca Beach Garden is one of my favorite Mexico destination wedding venues—and for good reason.
Located in Bucerias, about 40 minutes from Sayulita, Martoca offers the best of both worlds: private beachfront views and lush tropical gardens.
It’s laid-back yet luxurious. Private, but full of energy. A venue that makes it easy to have the wedding you want.
Ceremony: You’ll get married in a lush green meadow of grass, surrounded by palms with the ocean behind you, and the sound of the waves all around.
Kaylee & Ashton’s ceremony included a floral arch decorated with roses—an ode to their last name. It was stunning.

There’s plenty of room for dinner, dancing, late-night tacos, and whatever else you dream up.
Capacity: Up to 250 guests.
Privacy: One thing couples love is the seclusion. No resort guests, no tourists walking by. Just your people and your party.
All-inclusive packages: Martoca includes a venue coordinator, catering, bar service, florals, and more. Planning from afar is way easier with their team.
Thoughts from a Sayulita Mexico Wedding Photographer
Why I love it: Martoca is a venue that allows for both intentional moments and an unforgettable celebration.
Whether you want a barefoot ceremony or a full-blown dance party, it’s all possible here.
Personal Story: Kaylee & Ashton knew they wanted a venue that felt private and festive. Martoca checked every box. They exchanged private vows before the ceremony. Just the two of them, surrounded by palm trees, soaking in the moment. Their reception was next-level: a live sax player, signature cocktails, and a laser-light dance floor. Plus floor sparklers for their first dance, and late night churros and tacos to keep the party going. Check out their photo gallery and wedding recap here!
Pro tip: Martoca’s flexibility and all-in-one offerings make it perfect for couples planning from outside Mexico. You won’t need to manage a dozen vendors.
4. Renting a Private Villa – Sayulita & Surrounding Areas
If you’re looking for something intimate and highly customizable, consider renting a private villa for your wedding. This option creates an immersive experience both for you and your guests.
Renting a private villa is one of the best ways to host an intimate destination wedding in Mexico. You get total flexibility, built-in accommodations, and a relaxed setting that feels more like a retreat than an event.
Sayulita and the surrounding areas are full of large, beautifully designed villas that offer accommodations and ample space to host your ceremony and reception.
Ceremony space: Many villas have ocean-view terraces, jungle gardens, or rooftop spaces that are perfect for private, personal ceremonies. You can also opt to host the ceremony nearby in nature, and reserve the villa for the reception and after party!
You can create an altar space that’s simple and sacred, or deck it out with florals and rugs—whatever reflects your style. The beauty of renting a villa is you can fully make the celebration your own! You get to decide what the vibe will look and feel like.
Reception space: Host a catered dinner under the stars, set up a long table with string lights, or dance barefoot by the pool.
Some couples hire private chefs to cook for an outdoor dinner party, while others bring in rental furniture and a sound system for a more traditional reception setup.
Private chefs, bartenders, florists, and DJs can all come to you. The beauty is in how customizable everything feels. If you need vendor recommendations in Sayulita, I’ve got you! I’ve had the honor of working with some of the most talented Mexico wedding vendors in the state.
Capacity: Most villas accommodate 10–50 guests. Ideal for smaller weddings, elopements, or multi-day gatherings with your closest people.
Thoughts from a Sayulita Mexico Wedding Photographer
Why I love it: Villa weddings feel deeply intentional. Everything happens in one place (or nearby), which creates more space for presence and ease.
Plus you can infuse your personalities into every detail. It’s not just a wedding—it’s an experience for you and your people.
There’s something special about everyone staying together in one place. I’m photographing Amy & Bren’s wedding at a private villa later this month, and I can already tell it’s going to be an unforgettable celebration—relaxed, full of joy, and rooted in connection.
Pro tip: Some villas require event permits or have guest limits. Make sure to work with a planner who knows the local rules. If you need planner recommendations, reach out to me!

If you’re not drawn to a big celebration, eloping in Mexico might be the perfect path for you.

Thoughts from a Sayulita Mexico Wedding Photographer
Why I love it: Elopements are deeply intentional. There’s more time, more intention, and more space to breathe. You can slow down and really feel it.
There’s space for quiet moments, for presence, and for connection without distraction. One of my favorite examples is Libby & Clayton’s jungle elopement, which felt like a sacred pause in the middle of the world. Check out their photo gallery and elopement recap here!
Personal story: I photographed Libby & Clayton’s jungle elopement, and it was one of the most tender, grounded ceremonies I’ve ever witnessed. [Insert blog post link]
It was just the two of them, their two kids, and a third baby on the way. They didn’t tell anyone—not even family. They shared their news after receiving their wedding photos. A true elopement in every sense.

I offer that kind of support to all my elopement clients. From location options to vendor referrals, I’ve got you covered. I’ve also worked with some pretty amazing local wedding planners that can help with elopement planning!
Frequently Asked Questions About Destination Weddings & Elopements Near Sayulita, Mexico
1. What’s the best time of year to get married in Sayulita, Mexico?
The dry season—November through April—is the best time for a destination wedding or elopement in Mexico.
You’ll get warm days, cooler nights, and minimal rain. May through October is more humid and brings a higher chance of storms.
If you’re dreaming of golden light, ocean breezes, and smooth logistics, aim for winter or spring.
2. Can I legally get married in Mexico as a foreigner?
Yes—but there’s a bit of red tape. Legal weddings in Mexico require blood tests, paperwork, and a civil ceremony with a judge.
Many couples choose to handle the legal part at home and have a symbolic ceremony in Mexico instead.
This route is easier, more flexible, and allows you to focus on the actual celebration.
3. How far in advance should we book our Mexico destination wedding venue?
If you’re set on a popular venue (like Don Pedro’s Palapa or Teitiare Estate), book at least 12–18 months in advance.
For private villa weddings or elopements, you may have more flexibility—but the earlier the better, especially for high season.
4. Do I need a wedding planner for a destination wedding in Mexico?
While not required, I highly recommend it. A local planner knows the vendors, venues, weather patterns, and cultural nuances.
They’ll handle everything from permits to setup to last-minute pivots—so you don’t have to stress.
I work closely with amazing planners in Sayulita and am happy to connect you with someone aligned with your vision.
5. Can you help with venue recommendations, planning, or vendor referrals?
Absolutely. When you book me as your photographer, you also get my full support.
I help couples build timelines, find trusted vendors, and make the whole process feel less overwhelming.
Whether you’re eloping in Mexico or hosting a full destination wedding weekend, I’m here to help you make it meaningful.
